Shanna Banda

Dr. Shanna Banda is passionate about making mathematics education better. One way of doing that is by embracing innovative techniques, such as service-learning courses, which improve outcomes for students, particularly those from underrepresented groups. She has also helped bring vast improvement to the math department’s online course offerings. Banda has been a leader in programs which strive to help students be successful.

“I consider it my mission to help pave a way forward for other women in STEM, specifically mathematics. I want it to be easier for them than it was for me. I also strive to be a sounding board and a safe place for girls to come when they hit bumps in the road. We need women’s voices in STEM, and it takes those of us who have made it to lend a hand to those coming behind us. The world is a better place when there’s representation of all kinds, and there is no greater joy than knowing you’ve helped someone succeed.”
