UTA is classified as a Research-1 "highest research activity" institution by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, and has achieved all of the benchmarks necessary to become Texas' next Tier One research university.
University-wide expenditures for engineering research are more than $45 million per year, with the College of Engineering contributing nearly half of that total.
Engineering faculty were awarded $28 million in new funded grants in 2016-17, a 30% increase over the previous year. Also, there was a 160% increase in new National Science Foundation grants in 2016-17.
