Faculty and Research
The Forefront of Discovery. UTA is classified as a Research-1 "highest research activity" institution by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. University-wide expenditures for engineering research are more than $45 million a year. Some of the projects currently under way include creating research into the causes of blast-induced head trauma to help veterans return to a more normal life, developing flu virus-detecting sensors, designing assistive technologies to help disabled and elderly adults maintain an independent lifestyle, developing new ways to remove chemicals from water, and using recycled materials to build better roads and bridges.
