Yes! You are allowed to take summer classes. However, please note that there are restrictions on the number of hours you can work if you are enrolled in summer courses. We encourage you to balance your academics with your OL responsibilities.
Maverick Orientation Leaders
Mav OLs assist in welcoming new students and their guests to UTA. Students selected to be Mav OLs have succeeded academically and understand the importance of giving back to their community. Maverick Orientation Leader is a very prestigious leadership position.
Each Mav OL position has different responsibilities and benefits but all are excited to share their story with the incoming Maverick Community!
Students that began their college career at UTA, as well as those who transferred here from another university are eligible to apply for the Maverick Orientation Leader position. Orientation Leaders FAQs
Yes, outside employment is permitted. However, all outside work must be approved by the professional staff before the summer begins to ensure it does not conflict with your OL responsibilities.
Yes, you may request vacation time. A vacation request form will be provided during the spring semester for you to submit all requests in advance. Please understand that Orientation sessions are highly important, and missing a session will be considered on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the professional staff.
You will receive a calendar of orientation and workday dates before the summer begins. This will allow you to plan your classes, work, and personal schedule accordingly.
Yes. If you are a member of the orientation team, you are expected to attend all scheduled workday sessions unless you have given prior notice to your supervisor and received approval.
Life happens—we understand. If you know you will need to miss a training or workday, you must notify your supervisor as early as possible. Unapproved absences may affect your standing on the team.
Yes. Orientation Leaders receive compensation for their work. More details on pay rates and payroll processes will be shared during training.
Absolutely. All Orientation Leaders are required to participate in spring training sessions and an intensive training period before the summer. These sessions will prepare you to support incoming students and families.
Yes. Serving as an OL is a high-impact leadership role that comes with visibility and responsibility. While you will be trained and supported throughout the process, you should be prepared to commit time and energy to the team.
