Welcoming new students and guests to UTA
Freshman Orientation Leaders (OLs) are the first to welcome new students and parents during the summer orientation program in June, July and August. OLs develop valuable leadership skills including public speaking, conflict management, teamwork, and problem solving. Orientation Leaders will also have the opportunity to network with University faculty, staff and other students to become some of the most well-known leaders on campus.
Responsibilities of an OL
While this is a paid position, money is not the most significant benefit. OLs will be engaged in many learning opportunities that will translate to almost any career field. This leadership position will provide a strong base for any future leadership opportunities and career aspirations.
Welcoming new students and guests to UTA
Assisting in the preparation of orientation activities and materials
Explaining academic opportunities, responsibilities, and procedures
Acquainting new students and family members with campus services and building locations.
Facilitating small group discussions
Assisting students in the class scheduling and registration process
Attending, participating, and leading scheduled evening programs
Being part of and supporting a diverse team of Mav OLs
Fostering an environment that helps students understand what it means to be a UTA Maverick
Engaging students in UTA history and traditions
Gain significant leadership experience while enhancing your opportunities for campus involvement, employment marketability, and career opportunities
Develop professional relationships with faculty, staff, and other students
Gain skills in effective interpersonal communication, peer-to-peer leadership and conflict management
Learn to make quick, educated decisions in a fast-paced environment
Gain significant knowledge of UTA history and traditions, academic resources and involvement opportunities
Learn valuable small group facilitation and discussion skills
Attendance at the NODA Region IV Regional Conference (subject to change)
Compensation: starting at $11 an hour
On-campus housing and limited dining plan, during summer orientation sessions (required)
All apparel and food associated with NMO function.
