Testing

The state of Texas and UT Arlington have certain requirements that must be met before students can enroll in classes. All testing requirements should be completed before attending orientation to ensure no delays when registering for classes.

TEXAS SUCCESS INITIATIVE (TSI)

All students are required to complete the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) prior to attending orientation, as stipulated by the State of Texas. If this requirement is not complete you will be unable to register for classes at orientation. You can find your TSI status in your Student Center in MyMav or on your orientation registration confirmation email. If you have questions about your TSI status, email the University Advising Center at tsi@uta.edu.

If you need to take the TSI Assessment, utilize one of the following options:

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

E-mail testing@uta.edu to register for Virtual Remote Testing. If reliable and secure remote connections are not available in your area, you may need to wait to take the TSI Assessment after you arrive in the US.

STUDENTS LIVING OUTSIDE OF THE DFW AREA

E-mail testing@uta.edu to register for Remote Testing or Virtual Remote Testing.

RESIDENTS OF THE DFW AREA

Register with Testing Services to take the assessment at UTA.

MATH PLACEMENT ASSESSMENTS

To support students’ success in their math classes, UTA utilizes math placement assessment tests to determine your appropriate math placement. To ensure proper academic advisement for your degree, the math placement assessments must be completed prior to your academic advising appointment. Visit the Math Department website to learn more.

Students must take the math placement assessments if:
  • TSI Complete and would like to enroll in a class higher than Math 1325 (college algebra). This includes students in engineering, science, and architecture majors.
Students do not need the math placement assessments if:
  • TSI Complete and will be enrolling in the following classes: Math 1301, Math 1302, Math 1308, Math 1325.
  • Will be transferring in a college algebra class or higher from a previous institution or dual credit.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) TESTS AND INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IB) EXAMINATION
