After You Submit a CARE Referral

What Happens After You Submit a CARE Referral?

Once a referral is submitted, the CARE Team reviews the information to better understand the situation and determine how we can support the student.

Depending on the student’s situation, the CARE Team may:

  • Reach out to the student to offer support and share available resources.
  • Connect the student with campus and community resources that may be helpful.
  • Consult with campus partners to coordinate support when appropriate .
  • Follow up with the person who submitted the referral if additional information is needed.

Because of student privacy laws, we may not always be able to share specific details about the outcome of a referral. However, every referral is reviewed and addressed with the student’s well-being in mind.

Please Note: CARE Team referrals are not monitored 24/7. If you believe a student is in immediate danger or needs urgent help, contact UTA Police at 817-272-3003 or call 911 immediately.

Submitting a referral does not mean a student is in trouble. The CARE Team’s goal is to support students and connect them with helpful resources so they can continue to succeed at UTA.

Support for Faculty, Staff, and Others Making Referrals

Helping students through referrals can sometimes be stressful or emotionally challenging, especially in high-risk situations. The CARE Team encourages anyone who experiences distress after submitting a referral to use the resources available to them.

Faculty/Staff:
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP): Confidential counseling and support for personal or work-related challenges
  • Supervisors or Colleagues: Guidance and reassurance from your department or support networks
Off-Campus Resources:
  • FindHelp.org: Search for local mental health and social support resources
  • PsychologyToday.com: Find licensed counselors, therapists, or psychologists near you

Remember, it’s normal to feel impacted when helping students in distress. Seeking support for yourself helps you continue to support our students effectively.
