First-Generation College Initiatives
About First-Generation Initiatives
In partnership with first-gen advocates, UTA First-Generation Initiatives fosters an environment that cultivates a positive and meaningful experience for students FIRST. Serving as a hub, we provide individual and collective support and advocacy to all First-Gen students and their families through mentorship, personal development, streamlined resources and services, as well as dedicated programs and events. At the forefront, first-generation experiences are valued and woven into the culture and climate of the University of Texas Arlington, as well as the Department of Transition Programs and Services.
First-Gen Defined
Students that identify as a first-generation college student are the FIRST in their biological family to attend a four-year college or university. This means neither parent and/or guardian has a four-year degree or bachelor’s degree from any institution.
