Prospective Emerging Maverick students with future housing needs
Non-UTA Students - with future housing needs (aka Prospective students) who have lived experience in foster care or listed in secondary school systems as McKinney-Vento youth should meet with Emerging Mavericks staff before enrolling at the university to discuss housing support options. Book an appointment with an Emerging Mavericks staff member either in-person or virtually prior to your official university orientation to the university. Email us emergingmavs@uta.edu to get the conversation started.
UTA Emergency Assistance for Unhoused Students
The Dean of Students office has on-campus, confidential, and temporary emergency housing for students experiencing primary homelessness (i.e., living on the streets, in a car, in parks, and/or deserted buildings) as a result of domestic violence, relationship and/or sexual violence, family violence, stalking, displacement as a result of gender and/or sexual identity, and/or other identifiable emergency related situations. Students experiencing homelessness are advised to email the Director of Student Advocacy Services and/or EAF@UTA.EDU. Indicate in your request for assistance that you are a currently enrolled Emerging Maverick student. View the Dean of Students Emergency Assistance website for more details.
UTA Housing Deposit Waiver Requests
If an enrolled student who has experienced foster care or homelessness is facing financial hardship that makes it difficult to pay the initial housing deposit, they may request a deposit waiver. Depending on fund availability, the waiver may result in a payment extension, a reduced deposit, or a cancellation of the deposit requirement. Eligibility and the type of assistance offered will be determined by Emerging Mavericks staff in collaboration with University Housing. To be considered, students should email emergingmavs@uta.edu with their student ID number and the subject line “SIL Waiver Request” before submitting their UTA Housing application through the Housing Office website.
UTA Temporary Housing Options (during winter and summer breaks)
Occupancy space for students who may need assistance during the UTA winter or summer breaks may be limited. Please review the University Housing website for temporary housing and schedule an appointment with Emerging Maverick staff one month prior to the Fall or Spring semester end dates to discuss any of your housing needs.
