UTA Games: Splash Screen Design Contest

Design the First Impression.

The College of Liberal Arts invites all students to help shape the visual identity of a new, university-affiliated game development initiative launching this semester.

We’re seeking original “splash screen” designs that will appear at the start of select student-created video games developed through an interdisciplinary collaboration at UTA.

This is your opportunity to create the official first impression for games produced under this new university entity.

What Is a Splash Screen?

A splash screen is the opening visual displayed when a game launches. It typically includes the name and branding of the publishing entity and sets the tone for the experience that follows.

The selected design will:

  • Represent UTA’s emerging game development community
  • Appear on student-created games affiliated with the initiative
  • Serve as a foundational branding element for future growth

Who Can Participate?

This contest is open to all currently enrolled UTA students, regardless of major.

Contest Guidelines, Rules, and Regulations

Submissions must:

  • Be original work created by the student
  • Reflect UTA brand standards and university policies
  • Maintain the integrity of any official university marks, if included
  • Be appropriate for broad university audiences
  • No A.I. Assets allowed in any application, usage, or iteration
  • Function clearly in a digital format (high-resolution, landscape orientation)

Additional technical specifications and branding guidance will be provided prior to submission.

The approved name and splash screen will serve as the official branding for this university-affiliated game initiative.

Students cannot not modify official UTA marks. Any use of university identifiers must comply with UTA brand guidelines, which can be found below.

Final naming and branding approval will be determined through university review.

UTA Brand Guidelines

Submissions will be reviewed by a curation committee composed of faculty and university representatives.

Entries will be evaluated on:

  • Creativity and originality
  • Alignment with university brand standards
  • Clarity and visual impact
  • Longevity and scalability as a foundational brand element

The selected design will become the required splash screen for affiliated student game submissions moving forward.

The winning student will receive:

  • Official recognition on the COLA website and university communications
  • Portfolio visibility tied to a university-affiliated initiative
  • A foundational role in shaping UTA’s growing presence in game development
  • Credit in future games made for UTA Games and the splash screen creator.
  • A quest giver in the current UTA Games video game project.
