The Department of Communication at UTA is a recognized leader in service learning. Our faculty use innovative teaching techniques and establish transformative learning environments to help students excel.

The Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at UTA provides students with an academically sound education in criminal justice and prepares them for management positions with municipal, state and federal agencies.

In the Department of English, we focus on both the analysis and the production of texts in order to develop writers for the twenty-first century, imaginative thinkers who can compose in numerous multimedia formats in order to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences.

Students choose to study History at UTA for many different reasons. Some have a passion for learning and creating. Others enjoy analyzing evidence, forming their own arguments, and engaging in spirited debate. All are curious about the world around them and want to understand how it came to be.

We offer a minor, a BA, an MA, and a PhD in linguistics, the scientific study of human language. We also offer an MA as well as a graduate and an undergraduate certificate in TESOL, focusing on teaching English to adult speakers of other languages, in the U.S. and abroad.

We offer Bachelor of Arts degrees and minors in Sociology and Anthropology as well as a Master of Arts degree in Sociology. The Sociology Program is also home to the Center for Theory.

We explore the experiences of people with disabilities as well as the ways in which conceptions and representations of disability and “the normal” have shaped human experiences more generally.

The Gender, Women and Sexuality Studies program provides UTA’s undergraduate and graduate students with a flexible and coherent education around the history, significance and social perceptions of gender and sexuality.
