Accessibility

At UTA, we are committed to ensuring that all print and digital communications are accessible to everyone, including individuals with disabilities. This commitment aligns with our values of inclusivity and adherence to legal accessibility standards.

For additional best practices on accessibility compliance, please refer to the UTA Accessibility Guidelines.

Accessibility Guidelines for Digital Content

  • Preferred Fonts: Use sans-serif fonts, such as Helvetica or Arial, for online content to improve readability.
  • Font Sizes:
    • Body Text: Minimum of 12pt (equivalent to 16 pixels).
    • Large Text: Bold Text: 14pt or larger (19 pixels) Plain Text (Not Bold): 18pt or larger (24 pixels).

  • Color Contrast: To ensure readability, verify color contrast using the WCAG AA Contrast Checker.

Note: Orange color fills, large blocks of orange, on the web and print must be #F58026.

When designing for print, color combinations must meet contrast standards to ensure readability:

  • Preferred Contrast: Colors with AAA ratings are ideal.
  • Acceptable Contrast: Colors with AA ratings meet minimum standards.
  • Limited Use: Colors with AA18 ratings may be used for non-essential information but must not be used for crucial content. They also require font sizes of at least:
    • 14pt bold (19 pixels), or
    • 18pt plain (24 pixels).
  • Do not use the following combinations for essential text due to poor contrast:
    • UTA Orange on white
    • White on UTA Orange
    • UTA Blue on UTA Orange
    • UTA Orange on UTA Blue
  • Acceptable for Decorative Use: UTA Orange can be used for design elements or non-essential phrases like “Mav Up” or “Maverick Country.”
  • Essential Content: For text like “Apply Now,” event details, URLs, or contact information, always use high-contrast color combinations.
  • Primary Use: UTA Orange should serve as an accent color.
  • Text Use: If UTA Orange is used for text, it must include an outline or drop shadow to meet accessibility standards.
  • Substitution:
    • Do NOT substitute UTA Orange with #C45517 in print; this is reserved for digital use only.
    • UTA Orange remains consistent for branding—only its application changes based on medium.

The accessibility color chart indicates which combinations meet ADA compliance:

  • AAA Badge: Highest contrast, preferred.
  • AA Badge: Acceptable contrast.
  • AA18 Badge: Limited use; not for essential content.

If a square in the chart is blank, that color combination does not meet ADA standards.

  • Lower contrast ratios (indicated by smaller numbers) reflect reduced accessibility.
