Branded Products and Apparel
UTA’s Creative Services Department offers assistance in developing marketing materials and reviewing designs for brand compliance. To request support, submit a request through this form: go.uta.edu/creative-request.
Repetition of Unit Names: Do not repeat your unit’s name within the design. Your unit signature sufficiently communicates this information.
Content Focus: Instead of repeating names, incorporate creative language or imagery that reflects your program, such as a clever slogan, pun, or a design element that piques interest in your unit’s offerings.
Prohibited Elements: You are not allowed to create new icons, visuals, logos, or symbols intended to represent—or that may become associated with—specific units, sub-units, degrees, etc. Your unit signature serves as your official logo.
Garments
For garments worn by UTA staff in frontline roles—such as tours, admissions events, student affairs activities, Welcome Center duties, and volunteer work—the UTA logo must be prominently displayed on the front of the garment.
- Example of Non-Compliance: A design was rejected because it lacked both the University logo and name.
- Example of Approved Design: Designs that do not rely solely on a logo or signature but still maintain strong UTA brand recognition were approved.
Garment Colors
- Faculty & Staff Apparel:
- Only the following colors are permitted: White, Gray, Black, Orange, Royal Blue.
- Marketing-Related Garments (for giveaways or resale):
- Preferred Colors: White, Gray, Orange, Royal Blue.
- Prohibited Colors: Do NOT use Red, Purple, Green, or Maroon, as these colors are associated with other regional universities and may cause brand confusion.
- Exceptions: Special colors are allowed for national awareness events, such as:
- Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness
- Teal for Sexual Assault Awareness

Stoles
Stoles representing UTA colleges or degrees allow for some design flexibility, provided they align with UTA’s brand identity. Stoles must be purchased through a licensed vendor. For guidance or approval, please contact University Communications at branding@uta.edu.
Etching
- Use the all-white log for frosted imprints.
- Use the black logo if the etching results in a darker imprint.
Debossing and Embossing
- Debossing (pressed indentation with no color): Use the black logo.
- Embossing (raised design with no color change): Use the white logo.

Transparent Decals
For items like decals, glassware, clings, or stickers with transparent backgrounds:
- Use the white logo for optimal visibility.
- Special exceptions may be granted based on specific design or material needs. Please consult branding@uta.edu if unsure.
Approval and Review Process
The review process ensures all materials align with the University Brand Guidelines. In rare cases, special exceptions may be granted based on factors such as product space limitations, budget constraints, product type, and target audience.
Steps for Approval
- Find a UTA Licensed Vendor:
- Use an approved vendor to produce materials with UTA branding.
- Submit Design Concepts or Artwork (Note: This step is optional but can help prevent delays if branding adjustments are needed):
- Option A: Submit your artwork directly to the vendor. Approved vendors have access to UTA logos and signatures and are familiar with brand compliance requirements.
- Option B: For extra assurance, submit your design to branding@uta.edu for review before sending it to the vendor. If you are creating a giveaway item or garment featuring any UTA branding (e.g., signatures, logos), it is recommended to submit the design for pre-approval by emailing branding@uta.edu before placing an order with a licensed vendor.
Vendor Review Process
- The vendor may submit the design:
- To UTA Branding: For internal review, especially if there are concerns about compliance.
- To UT System Licensing: Where final evaluations are made to ensure branding standards are met.
- Approval or Revision:
- If approved, the design proceeds to production.
- If not approved, the design will be returned with feedback for revision. Work with UTA Branding to resolve any issues.
- Production:
- Once approved, the vendor produces the items. Payment and delivery follow.
Important: Allow 10 business days for the full approval and production process. For questions about the approval process, contact branding@uta.edu.
Trademark Use
When the UTA logo appears on merchandise or apparel, it must include a trademark symbol (™).
Exceptions: The trademark symbol is not required on:
- Stationary
- Marketing collateral
- Interactive Digital Communications
Due to varying logo sizes and product formats, a standardized ™ placement is not possible.
Vendors are responsible for adding the ™ symbol where appropriate.
Note: UTA remains a registered trademark regardless of font or style. For example, products in the UTA Bookstore may feature custom designs but still display the ™ symbol.
Finding Products and Vendors
Use the UTA Product Search tool to locate products and identify approved vendors.
- Search Tip: Select "The University of Texas at Arlington" when searching for licensed products.
- For vendor assistance, view the List of Approved Vendors.
Licensed (Approved) Vendors
To determine if your product requires a licensed vendor, ask: “Could this item be purchased at the UTA Bookstore?”
