Experiential Major Maps

WHAT IS AN EXPERIENTIAL MAJOR MAP?

Experiential Major Maps (EMMs) are created by representatives from each college, along with representation from the Career Center, the Registrar's Office, and Student Affairs. The development of EMMs is supported across the entire campus and staff and faculty are available to answer any questions you might have as you review the EMM that corresponds with your major. These documents integrate career, service and other experiential learning opportunities to help students get connected on campus. Following the map will help you achieve the Maverick Advantage!

Guide to reading an experiential major map. Top row from left to right includes descriptions of the key pillars of the student experience, a road map for timing of student activity and maverick advantage opportunities. Key pillars of the student experience are academic and non-academic categories of student activity. Those categories are: Educate, Engage and Excel. They are listed in rows. Educate is a category that that lists activities regarding educational goals and requirements. Engage is a category that lists opportunities for students to get socially connected and engaged with other students through on campus organizations and other opportunities outside of campus that pertain to students major. Excel is a category that lists opportunities for students to go above and beyond what’s required. Those rows created by the key pillars are sectioned into columns. The columns are a road map for timing of student activity. The road map organizes these academic and non-academic activities on a timeline from freshman year through graduation. Maverick advantage is a separate section of opportunities that help students develop marketable skills through learning opportunities inside and outside the classroom. All students need to participate in three of the five MavAdvantage activities before graduation. This section is presented on the right side of the EMM. This infographic includes an example of an EMM but the content is covered because it varies by major.
