Veteran Affairs FAQs

WILL A "HOLD" OR "DO NOT DROP" BE PLACED ON MY ACCOUNT IF I AM RECEIVING VETERANS BENEFITS?

If you are using Chapter 33 benefits and your paperwork and online certification are received by the payment deadline, UTA will place a courtesy "do not drop for non-payment" on your account. It is your responsibility to adhere to the deadlines and make payment arrangements with Student Accounts if you are certifying late. Please remember all VA payments are reimbursements and are not guaranteed. Visit Payment Information and Tuition Payment Plans for payment options and available payment plans.

WHEN ARE TUITION AND FEE CHARGES SUBMITTED TO THE VA?

Tuition and fees will be updated following the Census Date, as shown on the UTA academic calendar. For all terms, initial certifications are submitted to the VA for credit hours only. This will provide the VA with the information they need to issue housing and book stipend benefits.

WILL HAZLEWOOD WAIVE ALL OF MY TUITION AND FEES?

The Hazlewood Exemption waives all tuition and fees except for the Student Service Fee which is $12.20 per credit hour and will not exceed $150 per semester.

HOW DO I FIND OUT HOW MANY OF MY HAZLEWOOD HOURS HAVE BEEN USED?

To check your hours, please use the Hazlewood Student Hours webpage.

WHEN SHOULD I REAPPLY FOR THE HAZLEWOOD EXEMPTION?

You should reapply about a month prior to the start of the semester in which you want to use the exemption. You may request Hazlewood to be applied to your account for one academic year starting with Fall, Spring, then Summer. Each semester must be marked on the application and the application requires annual renewal in the fall. You may complete the Hazlewood Continued Enrollment Application online.

DOES THE VA PAY IF I AM NOT FULL-TIME?

Benefits may be paid for training that is not deemed full-time. If you're receiving the Post-9/11 GI Bill® and training is at half-time or less, you will not receive the housing allowance portion of the benefit. However, your tuition and fees will still be paid according to your eligibility percentage. If you're receiving any other benefit program, the VA will pay you based on the tuition and fees of your course(s) as reported by University of Texas at Arlington.

GI Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). More information about education benefits offered by VA is available at the official U.S. government website at https://www.benefits.va.gov/gibill.
