  • Same-day sign-ups begin at 8 AM and fill on a first-come, first-served basis.

Transition Requirements

To move from First Year Advising into your academic college, you must meet specific GPA, credit hour, and course requirements. Your advisor can help you check your progress and build a plan.

  • 15 hours completed
  • Minimum GPA varies:
    • 2.25 for Communication (COMM)
    • 2.5 for Art (ART)
    • 2.0 other COLA departments
  • Must complete 1 math course (except for Music and Theatre)
  • 30 hours completed
  • 2.0 cumulative GPA
  • Psychology majors:
    • 2.25 cumulative GPA requirement
    • C or better in PSYC 1315
    • C or better in MATH 1402 or higher
  • Biology majors:
    • Minimum 2.0 GPA in biology coursework
  • Math majors:
    • C or better in MATH 1426

New to UTA?

Make sure you:

  • Submit all college transcripts
  • This includes dual credit, community college coursework, and any previously earned college credit. Make sure transcripts are sent directly from the institution.

  • Submit your official test scores
  • AP, IB, CLEP, and A‑Level scores must be sent directly from the testing agency for UTA to award credit.

  • Complete ALEKS (if required for your major)
  • Some majors require ALEKS for math placement. Check your major’s math requirements and complete ALEKS early if needed.

  • Complete the Academic Advising Short Course in Canvas
  • This short course prepares you for your advising appointment, helps you understand degree requirements, and walks you through registration steps.

  • Prepare to register for classes
  • Learn how to use MavPlanner and MavScheduler to plan your firstsemester and register for classes before orientation.
