Art Minors for Non-Art Majors

Art Minors

Currently, the Art and Art History Department offers the following minors:

  • Art History
  • Photography
  • Commercial Film Production
  • Glass
  • Museum Studies
  • Printmaking

Students should consult their major advisor to determine how an Art minor will work with their degree plan and to request approval via the University Minor application (for non-College of Liberal Arts majors). For non-art majors, the student’s major department must approve any minor per UTA’s Minor Approval form.

Approved Art Minors may fill out a Non-Major Course Request waitlist form in the Art Office (FAB Room 335) on the date designated by the Art Department Advisors. Specific course number/section required.

If you are interested in taking one of the many studio art courses we offer as a non-major, please click here to read our Non-Major Wait-List Policy for more information.

Students interested in an Art minor must complete the Art and Art History Department’s Minor application. Minors within Art require 18 total credit hours of completion, with a minimum of 6 credit hours of upper/advanced (3/4000) ART coursework. Specific requirements will be outlined in each minor offering. Prerequisites may be required prior to enrollment. Please contact an Art advisor at art-arthistory@uta.edu for more information, if applicable.

Students who may have already completed 18 credit hours of ART courses with at least 6 credit hours of upper/advanced (3/4000) ART, whether transfer or UTA credits, may contact an Art advisor to discuss “non-traditional” or “retroactive” minor completion.

Summary to earning an Art minor:

  • Total 18 credit hours of Art courses earned
    • Art History course completion for an Art History minor, Studio Art course completion for Photography and Art (General) minors.
  • 6 hours must be 3/4000 level
  • 2.5 GPA Required in Photography and Art (General) and a 3.0 GPA required in Art History
  • Officially declared within a major
    • Students may be required to complete UTA’s Minor approval form with their major advisor’s approval

In order to gain access to register for an Art course, students may submit requests through our Non-Major Waitlist Policy. (Click here to read our Non-Major Wait-List Policy for more information.)
