Food For Thought

Campus Recreation has a great series of FREE wellness related presentations this spring for faculty/staff and students.  The Food for Thought series will continue to be at noon, at the MAC, room 101B. There is no fee and you are welcome to bring your lunch. Each class stands alone and you can attend any or all, if you choose. Register online at

Welcome Back Splash - no lap swimming available

Stop by to cool off and enjoy this one of a kind water themed event.  Food, activities, giveaways, swimming, sports, and more all will be available. This event is open to all students.

Get ready to ride in an event like no other! Together with your teammates you must keep your bike pedaling from noon to midnight. Get a team of 5 or 25; just make sure someone is riding the entire 12 hours. All money raised goes to American Heart Association.

Each year, the Department of Campus Recreation puts on one of the most popular traditions on campus. Oozeball, held yearly on the third Friday in September, is a one day event where students participate in a mud volleyball tournament.  Over 100 teams consisting of 6 players each compete in a bracket style tournament until 1 team remains as the champion. Information about the event can be found here.

Bed Races

Another popular event, Bed Races, is presented by Campus Recreation in conjunction with EXCEL Campus Activities. Bed Races is the longest running tradition on campus dating back over 30 years. Currently held in Maverick Stadium, Bed Races is a 1 night event on the first Thursday of every October. Teams of 5 push a wheeled bed 40 yards to attempt to run the fastest time. Top times of men’s, women’s, and co-ed divisions participate in a final heat to determine an overall winner in each division. Information on how to register can be found on the EXCEL website as the event nears.

Halloween Casino Night is a collaborative effort between Campus Recreation, EXCEL/Student Activities, Apartment & Residence Life, the University Center, Health Services, UTA Police, and Tarrant County Challenge.  The event provides students with a substance-free Halloween party alternative. The night includes free food, drinks and Halloween candy; a mock bar serving mock-tails; music, casino games, and karaoke. A costume contest and prize raffle round out the evening. Come for the fun, a free t-shirt and lots of prize give-a-ways. Halloween Casino Night is held annually 8pm-12am in the Bluebonnet Ballroom, UC.
