06: Temporary and Conditional Accommodations
Conditional Accommodations
What are Conditional Accommodations?
Conditional accommodations are provisional support(s) issued for the semester when a student has a documented disability-related barrier but does not yet have full diagnostic documentation.
When Conditional Accommodations Are Used
- The student previously had a diagnosis but cannot obtain past records (e.g., provider retired, office closed, records lost).
- The student is actively being evaluated; the diagnosis requires extended testing or multiple appointments.
- A provider can describe the functional limitations even if a final diagnosis is still pending.
Key Point for Faculty
- Conditional accommodations are fully valid and must be honored for the semester. The Student Access and Resource (SAR) Center will follow up with the student for required documentation.
Temporary Accommodations
Temporary accommodations support students with short‑term medical conditions that limit academic access for a defined period.
Examples Include
- Injuries from a car accident requiring short-term adjustments
- An injured dominant hand affecting writing or typing
- A broken leg impacting mobility
- Post‑surgery recovery
- Pregnancy complications that create disability-related barriers
Key Point for Faculty
- Temporary accommodations remain in place only for the duration of the condition. SAR will update or remove accommodations as the student recovers.
