Information for New Honors Students

Now that you have been admitted to the Honors College, you are probably wondering what you need to do next. Choose your status below for more information.

Admitted Student Categories

I am an incoming first-year student (Fall 2024).

New Maverick Orientation

If you have not done so already, we encourage you to register for New Maverick Orientation (NMO). The earlier you attend Maverick Orientation, the greater flexibility you will have in course scheduling.

New Maverick Orientation will be held in person for summer 2024. Please contact us at honors@uta.edu for any questions you may have.

 

Honors 101

All students who will be new to the Honors College in Fall 2024 will be required to complete the Honors 101 module on Canvas. During Honors 101, you will learn more about the Honors requirements and benefits. New Honors Students will be added to the Honors 101 canvas module the first week of August.

Honors Welcome Back

The Honors Welcome Back is a new event designed to welcome all of our Honors students back to campus! This is a fun, casual event where you will have the opportunity to meet other new and current Honors students from your major and college. New students will receive their first Honors College t-shirts and learn about the various opportunities to get involved in the Honors College.

Come join us for this event on Friday, August 23rd from 11am-1pm in Brazos Park.  

Honors Designated Courses

The Honors College offers a limited number of Honors-designated courses each fall and spring semester. Although Honors students are not required to take Honors-designated courses, we encourage them to do so. Students enjoy the Honors-designated courses because they are smaller and provide a stronger foundation in the subject matter. If you would like to add an Honors-designated course to your schedule, you should let your academic advisor know when you meet with him/her during New Maverick Orientation (NMO).

If you were admitted to the Honors College after you attended NMO, you may be able to add Honors-designated courses in MyMav. If not, you will need to contact your academic advisor (not your Honors College advisor).

If you do not need/wish to take any of the Honors-designated courses offered this fall, that is okay! You will instead contract one or more of your regular classes. We will discuss contracting in greater detail at Honors 101. 

Honors Initial Advising

All newly admitted Honors students will meet with an Honors advisor during their first semester as an Honors student here at UT Arlington (Fall 2024). Honors advising is supplemental to academic advising; if you have questions pertaining to which courses you will take in the fall, you should contact your regular academic advisor. You will receive additional details about Honors Initial Advising later in the summer.

When on campus for New Maverick Orientation, you can stop by College Hall in suite 100 or contact us at honors@uta.edu for any Honors questions you may have.
