Summer 2026 Honors Signature* Study Abroad Opportunities
ENGL 2303/3300 “Young Voices from the Theresienstadt Jewish Ghetto”
This program is full; there are no more spaces available.
This course invites students to study the extraordinary art and writing created by children and young adults imprisoned in Theresienstadt (Terezín), a Nazi-established ghetto and transit camp near Prague. Despite horrific conditions—33,000 deaths within the camp and the near annihilation of its 15,000 children—prisoners resisted despair through clandestine education, music, worship, and creative expression. The course blends historical study with literary analysis, emphasizing how young voices documented both atrocity and human resilience. (Insert link to .pdf or landing page)
Funding: This course is significantly subsidized for all Honors College students. All students in good standing with Honors and who are selected to this program will automatically receive the discounted rate.
Summer 2026 Honors Supported* Study Abroad Opportunities
Taiwan: Sustainable + Climate Resilient Communities
Sustainable and climate resilient practices can be difficult to be recognized and understood. Most Americans have weak understandings of key factors for creating sustainable communities. The infrastructure that supports our car-dependent, cheap-energy, and "throw-away" lifestyles remain a mysterious network of supply and demand provided at the gas pump, light switch, and marketplace. Taiwan, one of the most densely populated islands, provides an ideal site for studying the unique local approaches for sustainability and climate resilience as it not only committed to reach a net-zero carbon emission target by 2050, but also applied both traditional approaches and new technologies to achieve its net-zero goals. Funding: Up to 10 Honors College students in good standing with Honors who are selected to this program and who are eligible to receive the Honors scholarship will receive a $2,000 scholarship. As awards are limited, students must inform the College of their intent to participate and receive scholarship approval from Honors prior to anticipating an award. Students may request approval here: Insert Communication Method.
Honors Competitive* Study Abroad Opportunities
Various: Other Faculty-Led, UTA Sponsored Study Away
Funding: Students seeking funding for other faculty-led or UTA study away opportunities, must apply for funding consideration. Honors will offer a limited number of scholarships (up to $2,000 or 40% of the program fee, whichever is lesser) for students traveling with a UTA study abroad opportunity. The priority deadline for travel for Summer/Fall 2026 (travel taking place between May 1 and December 31) is January 15. This deadline remains open until funds are depleted. The application for Honors competitive awards can be found here: Insert Application.
* Honors signature opportunities are open to all honors students in good standing and students are generally all active in the Honors College. These trips are generally greatly subsidized and intended to be quite affordable. Honors offers set amount scholarships to students who take advantage of Honors supported excursions. These are generally in the range of 25-40% of the program fee. Honors also offers a regular scholarship competition for honors competitive study abroad opportunities. These are UTA, generally faculty-led, opportunities that are majority non-Honors students, but with content important to the applying students’ individual academic program or career path. The range of these scholarships vary by semester.
