A Welcome from the Dean

Welcome to the Honors College at the University of Texas at Arlington. The Honors College is a supportive community of like-minded, achievement-oriented students, faculty, and staff who encourage each other as we strive for our individual and collective aspirations. Our academic experience is built upon just that, experience. We believe that the learning that changes lives, that which builds confidence, enhances social mobility, and excites the mind, begins where learning is inspired by real world issues and contexts.

Like other honors colleges, we offer the benefits of honors courses. However, we consider honors to be more than coursework. As such, we strive to get our students out into the world through internships, study abroad, service projects, field and lab research, and civic participation. We celebrate the whole learner from library to lab to life. Our conviction is the honors graduate of today needs experiences that demonstrate their commitment to benefiting both self and society. Because of this, the focus of our curriculum is to guide students toward experiences that help build the confidence and resilience necessary to forge their own personal and professional destiny after graduation.

Honors works with all colleges and majors at UTA. It is a great place for students to be exposed to top achievers in all fields, and to the cutting edge of today’s knowledge enterprise. Our graduates regularly attend top law and medical schools, earn outstanding jobs at top-ranked employers, attend graduate school, and earn national recognition for their excellence.

I am proud to serve as Dean of this amazing community and I would love for you to join us.

Sean Kelly, Ph.D.
Dean, UTA Honors College
