Texas Legislative Fellowship Program

Cultivating the next generation of public servants by immersing students in the heart of the legislative process in Texas

What is it?

Founded in 2024, the Texas Legislative Fellowship Program is an experiential learning opportunity designed to develop the next generation of public servants and leaders in Texas. Administered by the University of Texas System, students in the program complete high-impact internships at the Texas Capitol and state agencies, gaining firsthand experience in the legislative process, public administration, and policy development.

Through a combination of academic coursework, professional development, and immersive internships, fellows build valuable skills in communication, leadership, and public service. The program fosters civic engagement and a deep understanding of the complexities and importance of state government in Texas.

The UT System Texas Legislative Fellowship Program supports students from across UT System completing full-time internships with the Texas Legislature in Austin during the Spring 2027 semester. UT Arlington students admitted to the program will live in Austin, enroll in courses, and complete a full time internship at the Texas State Capitol. This program offers an excellent opportunity for students interested in policymaking to gain firsthand experience with the legislative process in Texas.

The program is open to undergraduate and graduate students from all academic disciplines. Fellows will participate in an orientation, professional development and networking events, and a mentorship program. Fellows may also be eligible for a stipend of up to $10,000 to help offset cost of living expenses during the semester.

The priority application deadline is April 15, 2026. Students are strongly encouraged to submit a completed application by the priority deadline for full consideration.
