Welcome from the Dean
Greetings and welcome to the UTA College of Science!
Maverick Science offers world-class education and research programs in six departments: Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology. Whether you’re a high school student, a junior college or community college student, want to further your education with a graduate degree, or if you’ve been out of college for years, the UTA College of Science has everything you need to help you attain your educational goals.
In addition to providing our students with strong core training in the sciences and mathematics, we provide unparalleled opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to pursue research with our internationally acclaimed faculty. We encourage our students to become involved in research from their first semester on campus. Our faculty and their students are conducting groundbreaking, interdisciplinary research in a wide variety of fields, utilizing the latest in scientific equipment – such as that provided through our Shimadzu Institute for Research Technologies. The Institute is made possible by a unique partnership between UTA and the Shimadzu Corporation, a world leader in the scientific instruments industry. It’s one of the many things we have to offer that make the College of Science such a great place for you to earn a degree.
Another outstanding and unique component of the College of Science is our UTeach Arlington program. UTeach gives undergraduate students the opportunity to earn a bachelor’s degree in science or mathematics along with secondary teacher certification, all within a four-year timeframe, providing them with more career options after graduation.
Some of the other reasons to choose UTA include its affordability and its diversity. UTA has consistently ranked as one of the top national public universities for graduates incurring the least amount of student debt, and our student population has for years been ranked as one of the most ethnically diverse in the United States. This diversity is one of our great strengths as a University and a College.
To complement our educational programs, we offer great academic advising and career counseling to prepare students for professional programs, graduate school, and leadership positions in science research and industry.
I invite you to browse our website, call or email us, or better yet, come to campus to meet with an academic advisor or faculty member and tour our facilities. We can help you discover which of our excellent programs is right for you. We’re equipping the next generation of Maverick Scientists to meet the big challenges that our world faces today, and we invite you to join us.
