Campus Rec Descriptions and Pay Rates
BUILDING MANAGERS

Building managers are responsible for the daily & nightly supervision of facilities, events, and staff. Duties include: handling and documenting injuries and emergencies; submitting daily and weekly reports; supervising and assisting other employees; maintaining security; setup and breakdown of events; and other duties as assigned. This is a promotion based position, not a new hire position.

Pay: $11/hr


INFORMAL RECREATION STAFF

The Informal recreation staff person is responsible for assisting in the daily operation of the MAC & Physical Education Building. Duties include: checking for proper identification upon entrance into the buildings; issuing recreation equipment; maintaining and cleaning equipment throughout the building; and other duties as assigned.

Pay: $10/hr


STUDENT MAINTENANCE WORKER

Student Maintenance Workers are responsible for changing light bulbs in the MAC; fixing equipment; painting/chalking intramural fields; special event set up; and other duties as assigned.

Pay: $10/hr


LIFEGUARDS

Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies. Candidates must have the ability to work non-traditional hours such as late nights, early mornings, weekends and holidays. This position requires good decision-making skills and the ability to work with little supervision. Individuals must be assertively friendly and have an extensive working knowledge about facilities and services. This individual must remain American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certified during course of position.

Must have current Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED Certifications.

Priority consideration for American Red Cross LG Certified applicants.

Pay: $15/hr


SPORT CLUB SUPERVISOR

Individuals must be personable, out-going, and exhibit exemplary customer service skills. Candidates must have the ability to work non-traditional hours such as late nights, early mornings, and weekends. This position requires good decision making skills and the ability to work with little supervision, during practices and events and completing office work. Individuals must be assertively friendly, creative, and develop an extensive working knowledge about all Campus Rec facilities, Student Organization and Sport Club policies. Employees assist with business functions including marketing, financial budgeting, fundraising, and community service. Must take pride in the quality of their work, demonstrate initiative, and be attentive to details. This individual must remain First Aid/CPR/AED certified during course of position within 6 weeks of hire.

Priority consideration for First aid/CPR/AED Certified applicants.

Pay: $11/hr


GROUP EXERCISE INSTRUCTOR

The Group Exercise Instructor provides group fitness instruction in Campus Recreation at the MAC. Instructors are responsible for leading a variety of group fitness classes, developing exercise routines, and monitoring participants’ form. The goal is to create a motivating experience for participants through an interactive, comfortable, safe instructional environment. Completion of Fitness Instructor Training Course expected or national certification preferred, such as: Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) or American Council on Exercise (ACE), or NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine).

Required: CPR with AED certified, current, or to be obtained within 4 weeks of hire.

Pay: $14/hr


GROUP EXERCISE ID CHECKER

The Group Exercise ID Checker is responsible for checking patron IDs to ensure access into group exercise classes; along with supervision over room organization and cleanliness, including equipment storage.

Pay: $10/hr


PERSONAL TRAINERS

Personal Trainers conduct Fitness Assessments and design effective, efficient, safe and comprehensive exercise programs for a diverse training population.

Fitness Assessment responsibilities include managing appropriate paperwork, screening clients for medical clearance, and administering the following tests: Resting Heart Rate, Blood Pressure, Height, Weight, BMI, InBody 570 Body Composition Analysis, 3-Minute Step Test, 1-Minute Curl-Up Test, Hand Grip Strength Test, and a Sit & Reach Flexibility Test.

Personal Training responsibilities include proper program design and exercise prescription, teaching/coaching proper exercise form, technique, and safety, excellent communication and time management skills, and maintaining proper documentation, including client workout logs, to ensure and monitor progress and keep a record of a client’s training history.

  • Required:
    • Current personal training certification (or equivalent) from a nationally recognized, third-party accredited certifying body. Preferences include the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), or American Council on Exercise (ACE).
    • Current CPR/AED certification from the American Heart Association or Red Cross.
  • Preferred:
    • At least one year of personal training experience
    • Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Nursing or other health-related fields of study
    • General exercise and fitness knowledge and involvement
    • Excellent communication, time management, and conflict resolution skills
    • Leadership capabilities and general customer service and social skills
    • Capacity to be a punctual, reliable, flexible and adaptable team member

Pay: $18/hr


INTRAMURAL SPORTS OFFICIAL

Intramural Sports Officials are responsible for refereeing intramural contests including flag football, basketball, soccer, softball, volleyball, and dodgeball. Previous referee experience and knowledge and/or playing experience in the specific sport is preferred.

Pay: $10.50/hr


GRAPHIC DESIGNER

Responsibilities include using graphic design and marketing skills to create and produce fliers, posters, brochures, and other promotional materials for the department. Designer will also provide files for website and digital signage updates. Required proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat. Ideal candidate will have an eye for detail and ability to proofread projects. Skills in photography and video editing also desired. Average hours: 10-15 hours per week

Pay: $11/hr


MEMBERSHIP SERVICES

Responsibilities include membership, towel and locker sales, activity and intramural sport registration, and more. This position must also enforce Campus Recreation policies and procedures in a fair and professional manner, and have strong interpersonal and customer service skills during interactions with each and every guest that utilizes the Maverick Activities Center. The Membership Services staff position will also be charged with distributing current and consistent information about the Department of Campus Recreation to all guests of the facility.

Pay: $10.25/hr


CLIMBING WALL SUPERVISOR

Provide on-site supervision of the climbing wall and all climbing wall participants. Ensure safety of all participants and Campus Recreation facilities and equipment. Open and close the climbing wall as per procedure. Belay climbers when necessary. Supervise Climbing Wall Attendants. Teach Belay Classes. Other duties as assigned.

  • Required:
    • CPR/AED First Aid certification (or a willingness to obtain within one month of employment).
    • Previous experience working as a Climbing Wall Attendant.
    • Previous climbing experience.
    • Desire to provide quality customer service to everyone.
    • Good communication skills.

Pay: $10.50/hr

FITNESS CENTER STAFF

Fitness Center Staff manage our Weight Room, TRX room, Cardio Area, Cycle Studio and Indoor Track (upstairs spaces in the MAC). Primary duties include rule/policy enforcement, order/organization of the equipment, training implements, and space, hourly cleaning assignments, proactive and reactive maintenance troubleshooting/reporting, towel service management, locker assistance tasks, and general customer service responsibilities.

  • Required
    • Able to be on your feet and walk around most of your shift
    • Ability to re-rack weights/barbells and put other training implements back in there designated places; ability to reset equipment that shifts out of place
    • Clean equipment thoroughly and report maintenance issues
    • Maintain a current CPR/AED certification (to be obtained within the first semester of hire, the department provides this training in the house)
  • Preferred
    • Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Nursing or other health-related fields of study
    • General exercise and fitness knowledge and involvement
    • Excellent communication, time management, and conflict resolution skills
