FUTURE HEALTH PROFESSIONALS

Are you interested in pursuing a career as a medical doctor, dentist, pharmacist, physician’s assistant, or another graduate-level health professional field? You can find information here to help you on your journey! The FAQ Page can answer many common questions! Students interested in Nursing, Public Health, or Exercise Science should visit the College of Nursing and Health Innovation website.

GENERAL STEPS for ADMISSSION TO A GRADUATE HEALTH PROGRAM - it's more than GPA and COURSES!

  1. Select major and complete required and recommended courses with your Bachelor's Degree.

(NOTE: Pre-Health or Pre-Med/Dental/PA, etc. are NOT majors. Common majors are discussed on the FAQ Page.)

  2. Gain experiences while completing your degree. You should be able to answer WHY THIS SPECIFIC profession and show your motivation and characteristics that make you a good fit for the career. (EX: Academic ability, high science GPA/upward trend, Healthcare & non-healthcare experiences, community service, research, leadership, life experiences, overcoming challenges, etc.)

  3. Apply for specific programs using application services for health programs including primary and secondary applications, letters of recommendations, test scores, and other requirements. Most application cycles start a year before entry.

(NOTE: Students apply when they are able to show and discuss the aspects listed in step 2. Completing a degree as fast as possible does not make you a "better candidate".)

  4. Interview with programs if invited for an interview.

  5. Wait for acceptance or address weaknesses and reapply the following year.

Not sure what these college terms mean? College terms can be confusing! Use UTA's Glossary (aka dictionary) to help you better understand them!
