Meet Vicki Ho

What inspired you to choose chemistry as your major?

I would say I choose it due to my gut. I have a great chemistry teacher since high school, which also led me to science field. Chemistry is a gateway science. It is essential for understanding other science field.

What was your favorite chemistry class and why?

My favorite chemistry class is Instrumental Analysis. Although being in ACT lab and other chemistry laboratories, I am still not be able to study the solid background and analytical techniques of the instruments in detail. This class taught me concepts of those instruments and also prepare students on doing research. I had chance to choose topics, read research articles to set up my own experiments with my partners.

What do you see as your ideal long-term career?

My aim is to study pharmacy. This is also a reason why I chose Biochemistry as my major.

Have you been involved in research? If yes, which professor(s) lab?

I have recently been in Dr. Foss's research lab as an undergraduate student.

What was the most impactful experience you had as a student while at UTA?

My most impactful experience I had as a student while at UTA was being a chemistry tutor in chemistry clinic.

What advice would you give to your younger self about college?

Take risks, do not overthink on what can possibly go wrong, and believe in yourself!

What is one thing that people who know you might be surprised to learn?

I am an international student. I had studied at 4 different high schools in each grade of my high school year!
