Event Coordinator and Book Club Founder

My name is Mistie and I am a Texas woman born and raised, but my passport is always handy, and a bag is packed. My background is a BA in Psychology, a Masters in Library Science and I am currently working on applying to PhD programs. I would love to teach at the college level and work in a library. Or own my own bookstore.

Reading is my number one passion. I am currently coordinating 5 book clubs and I still feel like it is not enough. I miss going to in person book events/conventions. I love hanging out with my sisters and both my nephews.

I am a pro-planner, with a mixture of procrastination. I am also hesitantly spontaneous. My last spontaneous adventure was booking a flight to Chicago three days before departure to visit a friend. She is also responsible for achieving a childhood dream, for my nine-year-old self, to visit the Field Museum and see the Tsavo Lions. There was dust in the air, it is a museum, I was not crying.

Fun tidbits about me

What would be the theme song for your life?

Powerline by Tevin Campbell, A Goofy Movie

What is your favorite quote?

"Do one thing everyday that scares you" by: Mary Schmich, 1997 from an essay called "Advice, like youth, probably justed wasted on the young"

What are some of the items on your bucket list?

I will be on the cover of a romance novel, run a 5k, skydive, complete and submit my book for publication, and to one day attend the San Diego Comic-Con

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

To be able to read and write every language from the past, present, and future. Or to be able to tell when someone is lying. Like Steve Jinks in Warehouse 13

If you could time-travel, where would you go and what would you do?

To the Library of Alexandria and learn as much as I can

What goals are you working towards? Personal, professional, for the WFSN.

My top two goals are applying to PhD programs and finish writing my book

What do you want to accomplish being a part of the WFSN executive team?

To use my voice and platform in promoting diversity, inclusion, and expanding our book club. We need more women who are positive toward other women, no shaming or putting them down. We also need more women in higher positions and the WFSN provides a platform and opportunity to help women speak up.
