Student Senate approves New UC for April ballot, introduces five new resolutions

The call for a UC renovation was introduced by the student body in 2022, but lost to three opposing votes in the following ballot, according to previous Shorthorn reporting. The current fee, $39, has been the same since 1985. If passed, the fee would rise to $150 per spring and fall semester or $75 per summer semester.

UC Renovations to be voted on again

UC operations director David Albart said the increase will be implemented and collected after the UT System Board of Regents approves the renovations. Construction dates and the timing of the fee increase hinge upon the system’s approval, but the planning process will take about a year to complete. Construction is expected to take about three years.

During the Feb. 13 Student Senate meeting, the body voted in favor of adding Resolution 24-03, “Renovate & Renew,” to the April 1 and 2 ballot, according to previous Shorthorn reporting. It aims to renovate and expand the UC through an increase to the UTA student union fee.

University Center renovations proposal aims to solve building's infrastructure issues

The UC opened in 1953 and the building has continued to grow through expansions. But the recent call for the facility's renovations has asked students to consider the building’s need for an upgrade and an increase to the student union fee to accommodate the construction.
