UTA student nurses ready

Elizabeth Merwin, dean of the College of Nursing and Health Innovation at UT Arlington, shared her views on the nationwide nursing shortage and graduating student nurses in a D Magazine opinion column. Merwin said, “Our nurses entering the workforce to care for you and your loved ones have worked night and day to get to this point. We know they will make a difference, and they will save lives."

Mavericks helping others

Elizabeth Bailey, UTA alumna, Naval Academy grad and former Navy helicopter pilot, is now a registered nurse at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis and was featured in The Baltimore Sun. Bailey said she feels prepared "to deal with the unknown, the uncharted territory which is this pandemic."

State board for educator certification

Governor Greg Abbott appointed Jean Streepey to the State Board for Educator Certification, the Office of the Texas Governor reported. Jean Streepey received a master’s degree in education policy from UT Arlington and teaches seventh grade math in Highland Park. The board develops certification and continuing education requirements and standards of conduct for public school teachers.
