UTA celebrates its military and veteran community

UTA will host a Military and Veteran Service Showcase on Nov. 19 to highlight the University’s programs and services that benefit military and veteran communities, the city of Arlington reported. UTA is the nation’s top four-year institution for veterans and their families, according to Military Times.

Exercise program for cancer survivors

In a new research article published in Cancer, Yue Liao, UTA assistant professor of kinesiology, found that cancer survivors improved their quality of life, physical activity level and physical functioning after completing a 12-week group-based exercise program, Medical Xpress reported.

Machine learning and decision-making

Jeff Lei, UTA professor of computer science and engineering, has received a three-year, $385,000 grant from the National Institute of Standards and Technology to study how machine learning systems make decisions and what happens when they make wrong ones, Health IT Analytics reported. Lei’s research shows that data can be biased, or individuals can make mistakes in data collection, leading to incorrect decisions by machine learning systems.
