New option for cancer patients

Sherri McFarland, a chemistry professor at UT Arlington, and her team have developed a chemical compound using photodynamic therapy or PDT for certain patients with bladder cancer, KERA News reported. PDT uses molecules called photosensitizers to create a potent anti-cancer effect.

Holiday shopping

Traci Freling, associate professor of marketing at The University of Texas at Arlington discussed holiday shopping trends with The Dallas Morning News. Freling said televisions and kitchen appliances might be what most people think of when Black Friday shopping, but industry data shows clothing apparel has been the most popular item.

Improving infrastructure

The infrastructure bill passed by Congress this month puts Texas in line to receive over $35 billion to improve the state’s roads, public transit, water supplies, bridges and more, The Dallas Morning News reported. Civil Engineering Professor Nur Yazdani said "This is a big prize for every person in Texas."

Tiffany Kindratt, assistant professor from the Public Health Program in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation, was featured in the Dallas Observer in an article that offered advice for speaking with loved ones about vaccine hesitancy.

UTA Thanksgiving

Students, faculty and staff at UT Arlington gathered on campus last week for an evening full of food and giving thanks, the city of Arlington reported. The campus-wide Thanksgiving feast, which began in 2017, has its roots in an annual potluck Thanksgiving dinner that the Office of International Education organized for international and study abroad students to introduce them to an American tradition.
