FAQs

First-time-in-college students who are conditionally admitted to UTA participate in the UTA Mavs RISE program. A student who does not meet the automatic admission criteria for UTA is reviewed by an Individual Review team to possibly be considered for conditional admission. The team looks further at a student’s curriculum, GPA, test scores (if submitted), intended major, and any other criteria that are submitted and relevant for admission review. If the student’s academic record indicates they challenged themselves academically in their class selection by participating in multiple advanced classes, or their GPA, while not meeting the automatic admission threshold, is close, or their test score shows some academic potential, the team will consider these factors and determine if additional resources at UTA could help them in their freshmen year, so they have a successful outcome. These students are then given the opportunity to be conditionally admitted and participate in Mavs RISE.

Students in Mavs RISE work with a Student Ready Advisor to create a success plan built around them—using resources such as:

  • Academic advising and coaching sessions each semester
  • Academic support for courses (such as tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, and Peer-Led Team Learning)
  • A Financial Wellness Check-up with the Student Money Management Center
  • A Career Readiness Review with the Career Development Center

College comes with many important dates and deadlines—like adding or dropping classes, registration, breaks, and finals. UTA provides an online academic calendar to keep everything in one place.

Be sure to review it each semester and add key dates to your planner or phone so you don’t miss anything.
Selecting a major can be challenging! Your Student Ready Advisor will walk you through the major exploration process and help you determine what a best fit major is for you. Schedule an appointment with your Student Ready Advisor to begin the discussion. Major exploration and decision making takes time; it is important to start the process as soon as possible.
Each semester, an academic advisor hold will be placed on your student account before you can register for classes. Schedule an appointment with your Student Ready Advisor to discuss your future class schedule and registration for the next semester. It is important to schedule your appointment as soon as possible so that your registration is not delayed.
