More information about this exciting initiative will be posted soon!

First-time-in-college students who are conditionally admitted to UTA participate in the UTA Mavs RISE program. A student who does not meet the automatic admission criteria for UTA is reviewed by an Individual Review team to possibly be considered for conditional admission. The team looks further at a student’s curriculum, GPA, test scores (if submitted), intended major, and any other criteria that are submitted and relevant for admission review. If the student’s academic record indicates they challenged themselves academically in their class selection by participating in multiple advanced classes, or their GPA, while not meeting the automatic admission threshold, is close, or their test score shows some academic potential, the team will consider these factors and determine if additional resources at UTA could help them in their freshmen year, so they have a successful outcome. These students are then given the opportunity to be conditionally admitted and participate in Mavs RISE.

Mavs Rise students must complete the following:

  • Attend the Mavs RISE kickoff meeting in August before classes start
  • Complete a set number of academic coaching sessions during the year
  • Complete your academic advising sessions during the year
  • Participate in academic supports offered for your registered classes (e.g. free Tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, and Peer-Led Team Learning sessions)
  • Complete a Financial Wellness Check-up with the Student Monday Management Center
  • Complete a Career Readiness Review with the Career Development Center
  • We strongly encourage you to enroll in classes before August 1st (and the earlier the better!). Remember that payment is not typically due at the time of enrollment and instead adheres to a due date schedule.

Beyond the required program benefits of coaching and other supports, students participating in the required elements of Mavs RISE will receive giveaways, milestone awards, and raffle award opportunities. Participants can apply to join the Mavs RISE Residential Learning Community as well as participate in exclusive community-building events with other Mavs RISE students. For Mavs RISE students who don’t participate in the program requirements, a service indicator will be placed on your account that can impact registration.

Students who demonstrate success as they move through their education at UTA will receive notification that their Mavs RISE requirements have been lifted. Students who may benefit from continued support will likely need to participate for at least one academic year.

Join the Mavs RISE Residential Learning Community (RLC) to live and learn with like-minded students, make new friends, connect with faculty and mentors, and get a jump-start to your first year at UTA. The Mavs RISE RLC is located in West Hall and has double rooms available. Spaces are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Select the Mavs RISE RLC when you complete the UTA housing application. Learn more about living in a residential learning community by visiting this website.

Mavs RISE orientation will be a great opportunity to learn more about the program, explore UTA’s beautiful campus, meet some of your fellow classmates, and collect some Mavs RISE giveaways! We highly encourage all Mavs RISE students to attend our Mavs RISE orientation, but we understand that schedules may not align. Please register for another New Maverick Orientation session(s) this summer and we'll see you before classes begin at the August Mavs RISE kickoff meeting in Fall 2024.
