Painting faculty Benjamin Terry is presenting at the “Creativity in Academia” colloquium, the final event in the series organized by the UTA Center for Theory. In his presentation titled “The Creative Practice: Academics and Artists” Terry will discuss how academia has influenced art, specifically as it pertains to the origin and ubiquity of “artspeak”. Additionally, he will reflect on artspeak’s impact on his personal studio practice and role as a painting professor.

UTA Center for Theory was established in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology in 1999. It is designed to facilitate the research and teaching of a growing number of faculty and graduate students interested in contemporary social and cultural theories. The Center serves as an interdisciplinary gathering point, bridging social sciences and humanities and aims to focus discussion on central social problems of the early 21st century.
