Dr. David Baillargeon

The Department of History is pleased to welcome our new faculty colleague Dr. David Baillargeon.

Dr. Baillargeon is a first-generation college student who has traveled and studied around the world as a part of his academic career. From California to the UK to Myanmar, Dr. Baillargeon brings a wealth of national and international experience to the classroom and to his scholarship. His areas of interest, the History of Modern Britain and the British Empire during the modern period, incorporate the relationship between colonial governance and the historical geography of the British empire during the nineteenth- and twentieth- centuries. While his dissertation focused on Southeast Asia, Dr. Baillargeon is interested in all aspects of the British Empire; his research will contribute to exciting new classes and opportunities for to students at UTA.

Dr. Baillargeon received his doctorate from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 2018. He has been on the go ever since. Prior to the joining the UTA History Department, he completed a two-year fellowship with the European Research Council at the University of Nottingham where he worked on the Cultures of Occupation in Twentieth Century Asia Project. Throughout his academic career, he has spent time studying and working overseas, including five years in the United Kingdom and conducting research in Myanmar, where he put his knowledge of the Burmese language to use.

When he is not teaching classes, Dr. Baillargeon is working on his first book and conducting research. In his personal time, he is very fond of sports, especially Nottingham FC, and enjoys spending time with his wife, Caitlin, and their dog, Finch.

Welcome to the Department of History, Dr. Baillargeon!
