The Department of History is delighted to announce that Dr. Charles Travis has been awarded tenure and promotion to the rank of Associate Professor effective September 1, 2022. Dr. Travis’ Ph.D. in Geography was conferred by Trinity College Dublin (TCD) in 2006. His research interests include literary, historical, and cultural geography; mixed-method and humanities geographical information systems; and the digital and environmental humanities.

In addition to his work within the Department of History, Dr. Travis serves as a Fellow of UT Arlington’s Center for Greater Southwestern Studies and Associate Fellow with the Centre for Environmental Humanities in the School of Histories and Humanities at TCD. Dr. Travis is also an editorial board member of Springer Nature Press’s Historical Geography and Geosciences series; Il Sileno Edizioni Associazione Scientifico’s Geographies of the Anthropocene series; and the journal Literary Geography. Dr. Travis’ books and edited collections include the forthcoming Routledge Handbook of Digital Environmental Humanities (2022), Historical Geography, GIScience and Text (2020), and Abstract Machine: Humanities GIS (2015).
