Rick Bogard has been a member of the music faculty at the University of Texas at Arlington since 1990. At UTA, Dr. Bogard teaches studio trumpet and coaches chamber music. He holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in trumpet performance from the University of North Texas, a Master of Music in trumpet performance from Baylor University, and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Central Arkansas. His principal teachers include Jerry Ridgway, Dr. Ronald Fox, Thomas Booth, John J. Haynie, and Dr. Leonard Candelaria

Bogard performs as Second Trumpet with the Dallas Opera Orchestra and served as Principal Trumpet of the orchestra during the 1993-94 season. He has recorded Mahler, Shostakovich, and Respighi on six CDs with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and participated with the DSO in opening concerts of the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas. Bogard has been a member of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, the Waco Symphony Orchestra, and the Dallas Wind Symphony. He has performed with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, the Dallas Chamber Orchestra, and as trumpet soloist with the Texas Wind Symphony, the UTA Wind Ensemble and Concert Bands, and the UTA Symphony.

Bogard’s 2004 Solo CD “Trumpet Songs” was heralded by the American Record Guide: “Bogard knows how to make a song sound beautiful. His sweet tone quality is reliable in all registers, his pitch is excellent, and he plays with feeling.” The Journal of the International Trumpet Guild stated: “…brilliantly performs…displays an enviable purity of sound and an exceptionally consistent sense of lyricism throughout the recording as he weaves poetic lines that ebb and flow with expressive energy.”

Accompanied on the CD by by pianist and UTA colleague Dr. John Solomons, the duo has performed solo recitals throughout the United States. Additionally, Bogard has performed in Mexico, Canada, and Italy, and was a guest artist at the International Trumpet Guild 2007 Conference. He has presented lecture recitals at the MENC National Convention, and has presented clinics at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention and the Texas Bandmasters Association Convention. The UT Arlington Trumpet Ensemble, directed by Bogard, performed at the 2001 and 2003 International Trumpet Guild Conferences.

Bogard has written an etude book for trumpet titled “Daily Warm-Ups and Skills Studies”, published by Gore Publishing Company. He was the recipient of a 2002 Research Enhancement Grant from the University of Texas at Arlington

Rick Bogard is an Artist/Clinician for the Vincent Bach trumpet division of the Conn-Selmer Corporation.

Rick and wife Kathy reside in Dallas with their two cocker spaniels. They are the proud parents of University of Texas graduate Lauren.
