John D. Gonzalez, chair of graduate nursing programs at The University of Texas at Arlington, is a recipient of the DFW Great 100 Nurses distinction.

“The things I most love about nursing are the life lessons I have learned,” said Gonzalez, a clinical assistant professor in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation (CONHI). “I have learned that is it important to remain objective, continue to learn, be flexible because things change quickly, be proactive, and that collaboration is a very effective tool.”

Gonzalez has been with UTA since 2004 and has taught at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He has previously served as director of the Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program and the interim director of the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program.

His clinical practice has focused on inpatient and outpatient internal medicine, and he maintains dual certification and licensure as an Adult Health Nurse Practitioner and an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. He also currently has an active practice with a hospitalist group at Parkland Health and Hospital System.

“Dr. Gonzalez has been an incredible asset to our college over the years,” said Elizabeth Merwin, dean of CONHI. “Him receiving this honor just affirms what we see every day. He is an excellent leader, teacher and health care provider. His passion shines through in everything he does.”

The Great 100 Nurses program honors 100 registered nurses across the Dallas-Fort Worth region. Recipients must be nominated by their peers and are selected for being role models, leaders, community servants, compassionate caregivers and significant contributors to the nursing profession.
