Israeli political prospects
Brent Sasley, a UTA associate professor of political science and expert on the Middle East, wrote an op-ed column in The Washington Post about the prospects for Israel’s left after an internal election in the Labor Party.
UTA summer camps
UTA’s newly expanded summer camps were mentioned in a Plano Star Courier article about achievement gaps during summer months. UTA has partnered with local institutions to bring STEM-centric events to North Texas communities.
Student debt history
An op-ed column on the historical roots of the student debt crisis written by UTA History Professor Thomas Adam was featured in Salon. The op-ed originally appeared in The Conversation. Adams also appeared on Houston's KPFT 90.1 FM to discuss the op-ed.
Illnesses linked
Spectrum News and MyInforms reported that Priscila Caçola, a UTA assistant professor of kinesiology, has published a new study that recommends that children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder should be checked for developmental coordination disorder since the two maladies are linked.
Jay Z's induction
MyInforms picked up a Musiqology interview with Kenton Rambsy, a UTA assistant professor of African-American literature and digital humanities, about rapper Jay Z’s induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The article also features a video with Rambsy on the subject, produced by University Communications.
Researchers using UTA resources
Researchers are visiting the UTA Libraries Special Collections to find clues about the supposed UFO crash near Roswell, New Mexico, the Star-Telegram reported. The photo in question was donated along with other Star-Telegram archives to the collection. The Miami Herald, Sacramento Bee, Charlotte Observer and various other media outlets also carried the story.
Movin' Mavs scholarship
KTRK ABC 8 in Houston reported on disabled athlete Bryce Cruz. After a rare staph infection in his spine left him in a wheelchair, he found a new passion for wheelchair basketball. Last week UTA offered Cruz a full-ride scholarship.
Alumna named executive chairman
Benzinga reported that alumna Jacqualyn “Jackie” Fouse has been named Executive Chairman of Dermavant Sciences. Fouse earned a bachelor's and master’s degree in economics as well as a doctoral degree in finance from UTA.
Alumnus named vice president
NewsOK reported that alumnus Chad Trahan has been named vice president of clinical services at LifeShare Transplant Donor Services of Oklahoma. Trahan earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from UTA.
Alumnus building villa
Paper City Dallas profiled UTA alumnus James Ferrara’s work to build a classic villa, inspired by Italian architect Andrea Palladio, in Oak Cliff. Ferraro studied Palladio while earning a master’s degree in architecture from the UTA College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs.
