UTA grant to help commodity operating systems

Jia Rao, a UTA assistant professor of computer science and engineering, received a National Science Foundation grant to develop a method to improve key aspects of network performance within commodity operating systems, Primeur magazine reported.

Measuring temperatures more accurately

Panos Shiakolas, a UTA mechanical engineering associate professor, is using a Small Business Innovation Research grant from the Department of Defense to explore using ceramic and other non-metallic materials to fabricate novel advanced temperature and heat flux sensors that make measuring temperatures in a wind tunnel more accurate, Design Products & Applications and Fierce Electronics reported.

Cranial injuries help

A UTA team led by Associate Professor Venu Varanasi is researching a groundbreaking treatment to accelerate the healing of cranial injuries, 7thSpace reported. The project has received significant funding support from the National Institutes of Health.

Nursing program ranked

The University of Texas at Arlington’s online Master of Science in nursing degree program is ranked No. 7 nationally according to the Best Health Degrees website, Mirage News and Targeted News Service reported. UTA’s College of Nursing and Health Innovation ranked No. 2 in Texas among nursing schools with hybrid or fully online MSN programs.

Yibing Du, UTA clinical assistant professor in the College of Business’ Department of Finance and Real Estate, talked about the American Express brand’s evolution in a WalletHub.com article.

Water insecurity

Godfred Boateng, a UTA assistant professor in kinesiology, was co-author on a published study in BMJ Global Health that uses a tool to measure household water insecurity, Science Daily reported.

Pioneer award honors UTA alumna

Elizabeth Blankenship won the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living’s Jan Thayer Pioneer Award, Provider magazine reported. Blankenship earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UTA. The award recognizes people who have moved the senior care profession forward, positively affecting the lives of those served and those who serve.

No vaping at Texas A&M

The Texas A&M University System banned vaping on all its campuses this week, KTVT CBS 11 reported. UTA already had a no-vaping policy in effect.
