Improving composite materials

Endel Iarve, UTA professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, has received a $2.3 million grant from the Air Force Research Lab to create new tools for the design and certification of various advanced composite structures and materials, Scienmag and Mirage News reported. The collaborative project is especially focused on the realistic representation of “as-manufactured” parts that include manufacturing defects.

Studying infertility

Sen Xu, UTA assistant professor of biology, received a five-year, $1.89 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to use cutting-edge genomic approaches to understand the genetic mechanisms of parthenogenesis, a form of asexual reproduction, Technology.org reported.

Viable internships

Digital Journal described UTA as a partner in the overall push for meaningful paid internship experiences through its University Crossroads P16 Council, which works to prepare students for college and career success.

Facilities-related research

In a piece for Mission Critical Magazine, Terry Rodgers highlighted the Energy Smart Electronic Systems (ES2) program as a great example of how the federal government has collaborated and teamed with universities and industry to advance critical facilities-related research. UTA is one of three university partners in the National Science Foundation-sponsored collaborative research center.

Día de los Muertos

UTA will participate in the inaugural Dallas Día de los Muertos Parade and Festival Saturday, Oct. 26, Mirage News reported. At the event, UTA representatives will offer information about the University, its admission process, financial aid and student organizations.
