Empowering girls
Stephanie Cole, associate professor of history and gender studies at UT Arlington, spoke at a virtual conference for Girls Inc. of Metropolitan Dallas, D Magazine reported. Cole discussed the pressure and responsibilities the pandemic has placed disproportionately on women and girls. She said the increased burdens heighten the need for mental health support for young girls. Girls Inc. is a nonprofit organization focused on supporting and mentoring girls ages 5-18 with programming and life skills instruction.
Texas Reskilling Grants
UT Arlington has received $750,000 to help students negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic as part of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s second round of Texas Reskilling Grants, U.S. Fed News reported. The grants allow UTA to provide financial assistance, through coverage of tuition and fees, to help students in need get back on track for graduation.
