Arlington Independence Day Parade

The city of Arlington, Fort Worth Star-Telegram and NBC DFW listed the Arlington Independence Day Parade as one of several July 4th activities for North Texans to participate in for the upcoming holiday. The University of Texas at Arlington is a sponsor of the oldest event in Arlington and one of the largest parades in Texas.

History of “Jane Roe”

Stephanie Cole, UTA associate professor of history, spoke with KERA News about Norma McCorvey—known by the legal pseudonym "Jane Roe”— from the Roe v. Wade court case. Roe v. Wade, which ruled that the Constitution of the United States protects a pregnant woman's right to choose to have an abortion, was overturned last week.

Peripheral arterial disease

Kytai Nguyen, a UT Arlington bioengineering professor, is leading a project that will develop biodegradable nanomaterials that will take pictures and deliver medicine to combat peripheral arterial disease, U.S. Fed News reported. Nguyen is the principal investigator in the four-year, $2.1 million National Institutes of Health grant. Peripheral arterial disease affects more than 200 million people worldwide and is associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality.

International wheelchair basketball

UTA Alum Rose Hollerman (’19 BA, Interdisciplinary Studies) has committed to play for Germany’s professional wheelchair basketball team, RSV LahnDill, New Prague Times reported. Hollermann played wheelchair basketball for the Lady Movin’ Movs at UT Arlington and competed in the 2021 Paralympics in Tokyo for Team USA.
