The UTA Maverick Pantry presented by Kroger

The University of Texas at Arlington received a helping hand from The Kroger Co. to aid students facing food insecurity, NBC 5 reported. Kroger is supporting UTA students with a five-year, $250,000 commitment to the UTA Maverick Pantry presented by Kroger.

Military Friendly 

For its continued commitment to military-connected students, UTA has earned the Military Spouse Friendly School designation for 2022-23, the city of Arlington reported. Schools with the designation “have constructed their admissions, retention, career counseling and mentoring programs to help alleviate the difficulties faced by military spouses,” according to the announcement by Military Friendly.

NASA mission 

Rick Wilder, UTA assistant professor of physics, will play a key role in NASA’s Geospace Dynamics Constellation (GDC) mission, Scienmag reported. GDC is a coordinated group of satellites that will provide the first direct global measurements of the region of space enveloping earth known as the ionosphere and thermosphere. Wilder will be the lead scientist for an instrument that measures electron density and temperature, allowing researchers to understand the nature and structure of the ionosphere.

Snake Season

Greg Pandelis, curator of UTA’s Amphibian and Reptile Diversity Research Center, shared his expertise in Collin County’s Local Profile to help North Texans prepare for snake season. Pandelis says if you come across a snake moving along its way, you should not try to approach it, as you may receive a bite.

UTA part of diversity

The city of Arlington was ranked as one of the most diverse cities in the U.S. by World Atlas. The article stated that the Maverick student body is among the most diverse in the country, with almost 59% identifying as non-White.

Curb appeal

A UT Arlington study was cited by Bankrate, saying that houses with high curb appeal sell for an average of 7% more than similar houses without inviting exteriors. Some simple ways to update include fresh shrubs, planters and mulching.
