UTA among best institutions for veterans

UT Arlington ranked No. 1 in Texas and No. 4 nationally for veterans and military-connected students, according to Military Times’ Best for Vets: Colleges 2022 list, The Dallas Morning News reported. UTA President Jennifer Cowley stated, “Military-connected students enrich our community, and in return, we must ensure they have the academic and financial supports, services and resources to succeed and prepare for the next stages of their careers.”

Inflation and charitable giving

Megan Fitzmaurice, UT Arlington visiting assistant professor and philanthropy sequence coordinator, spoke to the Fort Worth Report about how nonprofit organizations are dealing with the effects of inflation. Fitzmaurice noted that nonprofits are dependent on people’s generosity, which declines during periods of economic uncertainty.

Personalized cancer therapy

A UT Arlington researcher received $250,000 from the Cancer Prevention & Research Institution of Texas (CPRIT) to fund research into tumor-detection technology that will enable personalized cancer immunotherapy, CW 33 reported. Michelle Le Beau, CPRIT’s chief scientific officer, said the institute sets out to fund the most innovative cancer research to date.
