20 Years Later

Today marks 20 years since the explosion of NASA’s Columbia space shuttle. The Dallas Morning News and the city of Arlington remembered astronaut Kalpana Chawla, the UTA alumna who was among seven on board. She is remembered as a “trailblazer and an inspiration to aspiring Indian and Indian-American scientists.”

Winter Weather

UTA was among numerous North Texas schools to announce changes to its status due to winter weather, the Fort Worth Star Telegram reports.

Teacher Salary

A newly introduced bill in the Texas Legislature calls for raises for state workers but does not include teachers, AS USA reports. Robin Jocius, UTA associate professor of curriculum and instruction, says that Texas is in a “crisis” of both teacher retention and recruitment.

Planetarium Gift

The planetarium at UTA received a $50,000 gift from Arlington-based Women Inspiring Philanthropy, Targeted News Service reports. The gift will support the purchase of new project equipment for the dome projection surface that provides educational entertainment to 50,000 visitors per year.
