Solar Eclipse Panel

UTA and The Dallas Morning News are partnering to present a panel discussion on the history, science and health effects of solar eclipses, The Dallas Morning News reports. The panel is scheduled for Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the UTA Planetarium.

Civic Engagement

Rebecca Deen, professor of political science, spoke with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram about civic engagement and how it is more than political engagement. She says being involved in things beyond personal and immediate needs can lead to being more receptive to issues and concerns in the community and being “part of a solution.”

Ode to Hip-Hop

The Center for African American studies paid homage to hip-hop during its annual conference, The Dallas Morning News reports. Big Daddy Kane was the keynote speaker and talked about the genre’s history.

McNair Scholars

Sixteen undergraduate students from UTA were selected for the McNair Scholars Program, Scienmag reports. The competitive U.S. Department of Education program prepares students interested in careers in academic research.
