Our Why

UTA is invested in the success of our students. We believe in our students’ ability to succeed in their careers, to impact their families and their communities, and to make our world significantly better. Research shows that engaging in high impact experiences and reflecting intentionally on these experiences increases student success. Kimberly's Why

The Maverick Advantage Distinction for me signifies that I have done the work to stand out not only in my educational career, but it also translated into my professional career. It has given me the foundation necessary to prove to future employers that I am capable and worth having on their team.

Brian's Why

These hands-on learning experiences have impacted me by reinforcing what I want to do in my career. Before entering college, I had an idea of what I wanted to do but wasn’t sure how to carry this out. With the experiences I had, I know that I want to continue with my plan of going into the medical field and I know how to do that by utilizing the resources around me.

Gianna's Why

The Maverick Advantage Distinction helped me understand my worth at UTA. Going to college should not only involve going to classes and getting a degree. The Maverick Advantage furthered my interest in being involved on-campus and in my community, which led me to see that there is more to me than just grades and a diploma.

Gerald's Why

I was a straight-A student, and I feel like that doesn't really tell the whole story about who I am. Employers live beyond just the academics and look into your complete self. So, being a good student that also plays sports, has friends, knows how to be social, knows how to have a laugh…

I feel like that makes me a more complete person.

My Advice: It is important to push yourself out of your comfort zone because if you get too comfortable, then you can’t grow. I do believe that pushing yourself out of your comfort zone, even if you fail, you're going to learn lessons that will eventually help you in the future

Mya's Why

Getting hands on experience was what solidified that I want to be an Occupational Therapist.

My advice: Reach out, go to departments, get to know your professors, get to know your classmates because you're going to be spending a lot of time with them. And learn what opportunities are available for you to get hands-on experience so you can learn a bit more about your field.”
