The John Steven Schuchman Outstanding PhD Student Scholarship was created to honor Steve Schuchman, a PhD student in the Computer Science and Engineering Department who passed away in 1989 during his doctoral studies. Steve was known as a particularly creative instructor of computer science undergraduates and the award is presented to a student for their dedication to research and their overall preparation as a scholar.
The Stephen A. Underwood Endowed Scholarship was created to honor the 25 years of dedicated service and outstanding contributions of Dr. Underwood to The University of Texas at Arlington Computer Science and Engineering Department. The scholarship is given to CSE students who meet high academic standards and who have high potential for professional success.
The Santech Outstanding CSE Senior Design Team Scholarship recognizes the team of students producing the most significant project in terms of creativity and quality of deliverables during each project phase.
Dr. Karan Harbison was a professor in Computer Science and Engineering at UTA from 1987 until her early death in 1997. Dr. Harbison was a successful researcher, an excellent teacher, and a mentor and role model to many women in the CSE department. She overcame many obstacles educationally, socially, and professionally to reach her position at UTA and was a tireless champion of women and underrepresented students in CSE. This endowment honors Karan's memory.
