Zhou Laboratory
Researchers in the Zhou lab are working on various optoelectronic and nanophotonic devices and integrated chips (lasers, LEDs, detectors, solar cells, and optical sensors and imagers), with a mission of scaling these devices with extreme performance and novel functionalities for integrated intelligent silicon photonics and flexible/adaptive optoelectronics.
The research focuses on light-matter interactions based on heterogeneous integration of low dimensional quantum confined semiconductor materials with photonic crystal and metamaterial optical cavities. Various heterogeneous integration processes are also being explored in micro- and nano-processed structures. Ultimately the group explores extreme device structures and functional, through coupled experimental and theoretical investigations, and extensive collaborations with groups from a wide range of disciplines.
The group is funded by the U.S. Department of Defense, the National Science Foundation, and the National Institutes of Health, among others.
