Maverick Academic Scholarship
Maverick Academic Scholars are selected from incoming freshmen that have a demonstrated history of strong academic performance. Maverick Academic Scholarships range from $1,000 to $8,000 per year for fall opportunities and $1,000 to $4,000 for spring opportunities, and may be renewed for up to three additional years. The awards vary based upon individual student profile, the stronger the profile, the higher the award. Please note, spring Maverick Academic Scholarship opportunities are only available to Texas Residents.
Every incoming freshman will receive a holistic review by the Scholarship Committee of their academic record for scholarship consideration. A variety of factors are considered using a combination of academic qualifications such as GPA, test scores and difficulty of high school courses.
Submission of SAT or ACT test scores is optional for consideration, but strongly encouraged. A combination of a qualifying unweighted, cumulative high school GPA and either test scores or rigor of courses is required. Students are offered the highest scholarship value they are eligible to receive based on their academic credentials and available funds.
Fall scholarship opportunities may include a non-resident grant or waiver for students that are not residents of the State of Texas. This reduces the amount charged for tuition and fees for up to four years if the student remains in good academic standing for the duration of the scholarship. Spring scholarship opportunities are not eligible for non-resident grants or waivers. Learn more about our non-resident grants and waivers.

Note: Consideration for merit-based scholarships is a highly competitive process. Meeting the requirements for this scholarship guarantees the applicant will be considered but does not guarantee an award. Students are offered the highest scholarship value they are eligible to receive based on their academic credentials and available funds.
